What is a CSA?

Benefits of our CSA

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and is a successful economic model for small family organic farms across the country. CSA membership represents a direct relationship between people who do not grow their own food and a farm that they trust. Through a pre-season payment, CSA members purchase a ‘share’ of their farm’s season’s harvest before the season begins, supporting the farmer to purchase seeds, hire workers at a good wage, and attend to other farm needs, while guaranteeing an outlet for their organic produce. In exchange, members receive fresh nutritious organic produce on a rhythmic monthly basis and they can feel confident that the food they are preparing for their families is chemical-free. CSA farming is also known as “subscription farming” because members “subscribe” for a periodic delivery of farm products.

Powerkraut CSA Local Share subscription prices are for pickup at the summer and winter Viroqua WI Farmers Markets. The prices have no added shipping.

Powerkraut CSA Midwest Share subscription prices include the monthly delivery cost for members in the Spee-Dee Delivery area. Spee-Dee serves Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota, Illinois (except the city of Chicago) and parts of Nebraska and Missouri. Check the Spee-Dee Delivery Area Map or call Spee-Dee at (320) 251-6697 to be absolutely sure. We charge $6 per half gallon shipment and $10 per gallon shipment via Spee-Dee already included in the price Midwest share price below.
